Rentkammer Terminology

These terms appear in the case files’s Designatio Actorum (contents list) and throughout the documents in the case file.

Terms Defined
Term in case file	English explanation
Rentkammer	The territorial chamber responsible for fiscal administration, land tenure, state domains, forests, and payments in Schaumburg-Lippe; it functioned as both an administrative authority and a decision-making body for land allocations and fees.
Designatio Actorum	A formal register or contents list of documents in a case file, listing submissions, reports, resolutions, and receipts in chronological order.
Vorstellung	A formal petition or submission addressed to an authority, requesting a decision, approval, or action.
Rescript	A written decision or order issued by a superior authority in response to a petition or report.
Conc. K. Rescript	“Concluded Chancery Rescript”; a finalized written decision of the chancellery, formally issued and entered into the record.
Resolution	A formal ruling or determination made by the competent authority, often following review of petitions and reports.
Com. K. Resolution	“Communicated Chancery Resolution”; a resolution that has been officially transmitted to the concerned parties or local office.
Res: Cam:	Abbreviation for Resolution der Cammer; a decision issued by the Rentkammer.
Amt	Local administrative office responsible for implementing decisions, gathering reports, and supervising villages within its district.
hiesiges Amt	“The local office here”; refers to the Amt with jurisdiction over the matter at hand.
Forstdepartement	Administrative department responsible for state forests, forest land, and forestry matters.
Oberförster	Senior forester; a high-ranking forestry official responsible for oversight and reporting.
Zeichnung	A drawing or plan, usually depicting land, boundaries, or building sites.
Specification	A detailed written description or itemized list, often accompanying a drawing or report.
Kammercasse	The chamber treasury; the financial office responsible for receiving fees and issuing receipts.
Kammercassenquittung	A receipt issued by the chamber treasury acknowledging payment.
Ausweisung	The formal allocation or assignment of land, often state- or forest-owned, to private individuals.
Forstgrund	Forest land belonging to the state or territorial authority.
Neubauer	A newly established settler or smallholder granted a new holding or building site.
Einlieger	A lodger or dependent inhabitant without independent landholding, residing on another person’s property.
Colon	A hereditary or long-term leaseholder of a rural holding under territorial law.
No. (Hausnummer)	The official house or holding number within a village.
