Note on the Size of a Morgen

The Morgen was a traditional German unit of land measurement whose exact size varied by region. In Schaumburg-Lippe in the early 19th century, one Morgen generally corresponded to approximately 0.25 hectares (about 0.6 acres, or roughly 6,000 square meters). Accordingly, the half-Morgen referenced in this document would have measured about 0.12–0.13 hectares (approximately 0.3 acres, or about 3,000 square meters). Because the Morgen was not a standardized unit, these figures represent approximate modern equivalents.

To the Office of Bückeburg
Land Assignment

The Office is instructed to inform Krückeberg No. 10 at Berenbusch that
the forest field marked on the attached plan, containing approximately
half a Morgen, is to be assigned to him upon payment of a reasonable price.

Before this, however, the Office shall report on any objections from the
holders of grazing rights (Hude rights), after hearing them.
