Actenstück 1 (Administrative File Item 1): Petition of the widow Krückeberg, holding No. 10 in Berenbusch (8 July 1824)

Overview

The petition of window Krückeberg begins on the right of the first page and continues on the right side of the back page. She is needy and facing financial difficulties. She is 58 years old and she can’t perform the feudal duties of the Burgrest labor days and the forestry services owed to the state of a Colon nor can she afford to hire someone in her place. She petitions for these duties to be remitted.

Explantion of Burgrest labor days and Forest service
  • Burgrest-Handtage → compulsory labor days (feudal service obligations) owed to the princely administration connected to castle or estate maintenance.

  • Forstdienste → required forestry labor (woodcutting, hauling, planting).

→ So in the petition she is saying: she is required to perform or arrange someone to perform certain manual work for the domain because of the tenure of her holding.

                           Actum Bückeburg in Camera

Apotheker, fast ganz arm geworden.

                          Recorded at the Chamber in
                          Bückeburg on 8 July 1824.

[annotation:]Poor/in need

The widow Krückeberg, No. 10 in Bärenbusch, declares:

Her husband died two years ago, and since during his lifetime he was almost
continually ill, she has, through the many expenses for doctor and
apothecary, become nearly destitute.

Now the performance of the Burgrest labor days and the forestry services
owed from her holding is very difficult for her, since, being now
fifty-eight years old and no longer able to perform them herself, she must
have them done by others for money. But she can no longer manage to raise
the money for the fulfillment of the Burgrest and forestry duties, and
therefore she is compelled to trouble the Princely Rent Chamber with the
most humble request to graciously remit to her, for some years, the
Burgrest and forestry labor services owed from her holding.

No. pr. 602

Because of the several years of severe illness of the petitioner’s late
husband, and because the costly domestic and foreign medical help that
she sought in the joint effort to save him has left the petitioner
entirely impoverished, she therefore deserves to be recommended for the
most gracious approval of any relief that might ease her condition.
Bückeburg, 26 July 1824.
Habicht. Sander.

Rentkammer resolution (2 August 1824):
It is hereby approved that the widow Krückeberg shall be granted
exemption from the Burgrest and forestry labor services for a period of
three years.
Approved — Spang.
By authority of Prince Georg Wilhelm.

Reminder Instruction and Note

Hide / show summary

The text appears on the left side of the back page. It is evidently a clerk’s instruction to verify whether the widow (the Supplikantin) still holds the parcel of pasture (Stück Land) that her late husband had once bought from the Chamber.

This is apparently a sort of "post-it" note reminder of what further to request in the Amt report.

The Last Three Documents (all one one page)

Summary of Last Three Documents

Hide / show

This is the image of the last three documents (all on the same page) of the five related documents grouped as #1 in the Designatio Actorum (the contents list). These are:

  1. Rought draft (Concept) of the official reply (Rescript) to the widow Krückeberg

  2. Likewise: sealed (with the official seal) and signed by Schmöe, Kahlhuth and Creuzinger of Baum.

  3. Rough draft (Concept) of the rescript originating from the Office of Bückeberg

All three are closely linked procedural notes written at the same stage of the case:

  • The first is the resolution to the petitioner: the prince has granted her three years' service excemption from the Burgrest labor days and the forestry services.

  • The second, the copies (Similiter) to subordinate officials

  • The third, a follow-up instruction to the Amt itself that directed the Office of Bückeburg to provide an additional report about the Söhren land purchase.

Because each is extremely short — just a few lines — and none needed its own sheet, the clerk assigned the same N.C. 2816 and N.P. 602 identifiers to the entire page.
