Petition of the widow Krückeberg, holding No. 10 in Berenbusch (8 July 1824)

Overview

The petition of window Krückeberg begins on the right sie of the first page, and it continues on the right side of the back page. She is needy and facing financial difficulties. She is 58 years old and she can’t perform the feudal duties of the Burgrest labor days and the forestry services owed to the state of a Colon nor can she afford to hire someone in her place. She petitions for these duties to be remitted.

Explantion of Burgrest labor days and Forest service
  • Burgrest-Handtage → compulsory labor days (feudal service obligations) owed to the princely administration connected to castle or estate maintenance.

  • Forstdienste → required forestry labor (woodcutting, hauling, planting).

→ So in the petition she is saying: she is required to perform or arrange someone to perform certain manual work for the domain because of the tenure of her holding.

                           Actum Bückeburg in Camera

Apotheker, fast ganz arm geworden.

[annotation:]Poor/in need

The widow Krückeberg, No. 10 in Bärenbusch, declares:

Her husband died two years ago, and since during his lifetime he was almost
continually ill, she has, through the many expenses for doctor and
apothecary, become nearly destitute.

Now the performance of the Burgrest labor days and the forestry services
owed from her holding is very difficult for her, since, being now
fifty-eight years old and no longer able to perform them herself, she must
have them done by others for money. But she can no longer manage to raise
the money for the fulfillment of the Burgrest and forestry duties, and
therefore she is compelled to trouble the Princely Rent Chamber with the
most humble request to graciously remit to her, for some years, the
Burgrest and forestry labor services owed from her holding.

Reminder Instruction and Note

The text appears on the left side of the back page. It is evidently a clerk’s instruction to verify whether the widow (the Supplikantin) still holds the parcel of pasture (Stück Land) that her late husband had once bought from the Chamber.

This is apparently a sort of "post-it" note reminder of what further to request in the Amt report.

It is also to be requested by report whether the petitioner still
possesses the piece of land near the Söhren which Krückeberg purchased
from the Chamber for 800 rix-dollars.
