Bückeburg Archive Research

This document lists the specific archival items required for conducting the early-period Krückeberg research (1700–1760) in the Bückeburg archive. It is designed to be used together with the overarching research framework in the Master Research Strategy:

Finding Prospective Parents of Krückebergs Born between 1736 and 1750 in Secular Records

The secular records listed here might hold the clue to the parentage of the Krückeberg children discussed below who were born in 1736, 1741, 1744, 1746 and 1750.

Background to Unknown Parentage

On 28 September 1727 Johann Henrich Krückeberg from Berenbusch married Anna Marie Vahlsing from Evesen. We know of no other early 18th century marriage in the Petzen Gemeinde, and the Kirchenbuch images for this time period are of very poor quality to begin with.

Furthermore, we know Anna Maria Vahlsing was born in 1701 because her May 8, 1757, death record states she was age 56 when she died.

Ten Krückeberg children were born between 1728 and 1750, one has no baptism record only a burial record, likely due to dying soon after birth and either not being baptized or not recorded as baptized. We have proof that Johann Heinrich was the father of three of the ten chidren born between 1728 and 1750, and we know that a Jobst Krückeberg was the father of one of the children. The given name of the Krückeberg father of the seven other children is not given.

The table below summarizes what is known of the parentage of these seven children:

Prospective Secular Records for Parentage of Krückeberg Children Born in 1736, 1741, 1744, 1746 and 1750.

These secular records should be examined for Krückebergs in the time period of 1700 to circa 1760. I would like TIF images of pages in these documents were Krückebergs in Berenbusch are mentioned.

The six documents above are the non-church record base for reconstructing every named Berenbusch Krückeberg ca. 1700–1760 that will, we hope, allow us to identify every Krückeberg household that existed in Berenbusch in that period.

Order of Importance for the six records above:
Priority Document Title Why It Matters

1

Namensverzeichnis sämtlicher Kolonen der Ämter Bückeburg und Arensburg, mit Nummerierung der sämtlichen Häuser

Gives every householder by name across the two Ämter — effectively the earliest census of settlers. Almost certain to list any Krückeberg in Berenbusch.

2

Erfassung der Haus- und Hofbesitzer im Amt Bückeburg im Rahmen einer Generallandesvisitation (Landesvermessung)

Lists all farm/house owners — not just colonists — during the survey, by village. Complements the Kolonenverzeichnis.

3

Protokolle über die Befragung der einzelnen Hofbesitzer in Evesen, Berenbusch, Nordholz und Rusbend im Rahmen der Generallandesvisitation (Landesvermessung)

Q&A minutes naming each householder; can mention predecessors, obligations, or family details.

4

Vermessung der Dörfer Evesen, Berenbusch und Nordholz

General survey with land data; may include field numbers or property names but fewer personal names.

5

Spezialvermessung der Dörfer Evesen, Berenbusch und Nordholz

Detailed map-level survey; useful for matching house numbers from the other records but rarely rich in names.

6

Lagerbuch über Ländereien, Wiesen, … und Gärten

Land book: names tenants, describes holdings, and sometimes states who held them before/after — mainly for later continuity, not for the 1700–1760 window.

Other Krückeberg Kirchenbuch Records

I would like to have the event, dates and facts for any Petzen post-1828 church records for any Krückebergs who appear.

Accompanying Citations

I also need an accompanying citations for each record. What is the name of the microfiche volume (or roll, etc) and where on the microfiche is it found, which film number or image number? We need enough information so that anyone else could go to the Bückeburg archive and find the record source easily and verify it.

I would also like transcription for the records below, which are approximate dates.

Emigration Dates to Look for

The Petzen church register for the years 1849 and 1850 may indicate the dates Johann Heinrich Krückeberg (born 1806) and Carl Friedrich Krückeberg (born 1807) emigrated. Johann Heinrich Krückeberg arrived November 5, 1849, in NYC, and Carl Friedrich Krückeberg arrived November 19, 1850.
