Meaning of Hofmeister

This is from a German genealogy forum:

A Hofmeister was understood to be a kind of foreman on large farms. Administrators and inspectors represented the management level. The Hofmeister stood somewhere between the management and the normal farm workers;however, he didn’t actually have much to say in technical terms. The Hofmeister was a kind of “primus inter pares” (first among equals) with the farm workers. He was a contact person at management level. The latter couldn’t personally tell every farm worker what to do. The farm foreman was given the rough plan and then assigned the people according to it. No special training was required for this, just character and assertiveness.

This record indicates that the decedant’s husband, Johann Heinrich Krückeberg, was a former Hofmeister (estate foreman) who later—perhaps due to health, age, or other reasons—became an Einlieger (free agricultural laborer).

The Meaning of the Equal Sign in This Record

In the image, what looks like a hyphen after "Reinen" is an equal sign (albeit an abbreviated one), and the meaning of the equal sign today would a dash. So Reinen=Neelhof is Reinen-Neelhof
