Meaning of Hofmeister and "au" Suffix

Hofmeister defined

A Hofmeister is defined in Thode’s German-English Genealogical Dictionary as:

"adminstrator of a manorial estate; child's tutor"

In the entry, Otto Rösener is the Hofmeister auf der Hockersaue. "Hocker Aue" also appears in image 274 in the baptism record of Johanna Sophie Charlotte Kruckebergen. Her godmother Johanna Sophie Margedalenna Wilkeningen is described as: "von der Hockerers Aue".

Meaning of -au or -aue Suffix

Thode’s German-Enlgish Genealogical Dictionary defines -aue as a suffix meaning meadow. dict.cc define Aue as a poetic, old regional word meaning: meadow[piece of low ground near a river].

In this entry "au" occurs as the suffix in Höckersau, while in the 1782 Johanna Sophie Charlotte Krückeberg baptism record it appears as aue, Höckersaue.
